Mindful Self-Compassionate Grieving Course

Overview:

Grieving can be debilitating, causing depression, loss of faith, loss of focus and loss of interest in life, it can be heart-breaking. This Self-Compassionate Grieving Course is designed to help ease the pain of anyone who is grieving from the loss of a loved one. This course will strengthen the understanding of our desire for happiness, help attendees hold the natural pains that accompany us.  With guidance, you can learn how to become grounded while facing grief and intense emotions. How to develop self-compassion, patience and re-embrace self-confidence, self-worth, and happiness in life.

Course Content:

  • Mindfulness Meditation
  • Examining our paradigm
  • Understanding feelings/emotions
  • Giving grief space without being lost in it
  • Understanding the difference between natural and self-created suffering
  • Cultivating Self-Compassion and self-kindness

Class Structure:

This class meets once a week for an hour for six weeks. We will start each session with a few minutes of meditation to quiet the mind and transition into the class mode and to carry this into one’s daily activities to sit quietly for a few minutes each day.

Who should take this class?

Anyone who has lost a loved one and is interested in reducing the pain of grief and loss through compassionate means. Special Note: This course was designed as part of the Kuroosh Compassionate Recovery Program to help family and friends who are affected by addiction and loss of loved ones due to addiction.

Teacher:

Dr. Manijeh Motaghy – Dr. Motaghy has lost her own son to Opioid addiction and gone through intense periods of being ripped and wiped out by the tornadoes, hurricanes, and tsunamis of emotions. Through her own practices of Mindfulness, loving-kindness, compassion and a deep desire for happiness she found relief, hope and solace – Out of an immense sense of compassion for the pain of grief, she has developed this and other courses in the Kuroosh Compassionate Recovery Program to help other parents and family members live a sane life after the death of their child.

Parking Instructions:

There is plenty of free parking in the lot behind the Tarzana Cultural Center. When you arrive at the shopping center go to the second floor and go all the way to the East side of the building. Go into the hallway and we will be the last door on the right.

Refund, Make-up and Cancellation Policy:

Class Refunds must be requested before 5 pm on Friday of the first week of class. There will be a $25 administrative fee. After the first Friday, we cannot give refunds. Refunds should be requested by emailing: register@perfectlyhere.org. Perfectly Here reserves the right to cancel classes due to low enrollment. Registrants will be notified in advance of the class. No refunds or credits are given to registrant “no-shows”.

If you miss a class, you may make it up during a current series or the series immediately following. No refund or prorate will be issued for missed classes. Students may Postpone a class. In this case, credit towards a future class will be provided if a registrant notifies us by phone or email in advance of 5 pm on Friday of the first week of the class series. The future class must be made up in the class immediately following the missed class series. (For example: if postponing a May/June class series you will have to use your credit and enroll in the July/August class series)

What to Bring

All you need is comfortable clothing. We ask that participants take their shoes off. You may want to wear or bring a pair of socks if you prefer. There are chairs, blankets, and cushions provided.

This and many other courses are offered to First-Responders / Veterans and their immediate family members at NO COST. Please provide ID at the first class.

    • The Regular Fee of $200 is used towards the continuous development of the Kuroosh Compassionate Recovery Program.
    • The discounted Scholarship Fee of $100 or $150 is for those with financial difficulty. Please pay the full amount if you can.
    • If you are in true financial hardship and unable to pay the Scholarship Fee, please contact us via info@perfectlyhere.org and ask for a scholarship. No one is turned away for lack of funds. All are welcomed.
