Perfectly Here is happy to announce a six-week, Introductory Mindfulness class on Mindful Parenting. Weathering our children’s emotional storms can be difficult. Instead of calming the storm, we often find ourselves churning the waves even further.
Participants will practice Mindfulness meditation, learn the tools of Mindfulness and how those tools can be applied to everyday parenting challenges.
Mindful parenting does not mean being a “perfect parent”. Being a “Mindful parent” means that you pay attention to what you’re feeling. It does not mean that you will never get angry or upset. Of course you will feel negative emotions, but acting on them mindlessly is what compromises our parenting. The second you realize you have lost focus, it is an opportunity to make a different choice – the choice to be present.
Managing our own emotions and behaviors is the key to teaching our children how to manage theirs. By noticing our own feelings when we’re in conflict with our child, learning to pause before responding in anger and listening carefully to our child’s viewpoint even when disagreeing with it, we as parents can reflect an equanimity that leads to a happier, healthier home environment.
