We live in a peculiar era. Individual and collective minds are divided and polarized like no other times before. Everyone believes they are right and perhaps authentic when they speak their minds. As Rumi, the great poet, and philosopher, puts it, “Truth was a mirror that fell and broke into hundred pieces. Everyone took a piece of it and thought they have the truth.”
The broken pieces of mirror, representing one’s truth, have the faculty of sharpness capable of cutting, harming oneself and others. When we pick up a broken piece of the truth and believe it is the whole truth, mostly it is because we are unaware. We are biased, influenced by our hurts, what we cling to, and how we construct our stories and perceptions.
The 2021 Beyond Mindfulness Series provide Mindfulness and wisdom training with the theme of authenticity. Authenticity is the core of awakening. An integrated, unified self that all human beings should strive to cultivate. A self that is not hindered by its own ideas and limitations. One that is free to express, to live as one desires, without harming others along the way. It’s not a selfish, egoistic-self, rather a well-refined wise, compassionate heart who loves oneself fully and equal to all others— As an awakened being, one knows and is without a shadow of a doubt a part of the Interdependence/Interconnection of all things.
This is a work-in-progress. Many of you have been traveling this road with us. Others join in along the way. Everyone will be cultivating their own authentic self in a continuum of progress.
