201: Part II: Managing Obstacles to Mindfulness

Monday, Aug 5 to Sept 16 from 11am to 1pm (Labor Day, Sept 2nd, OFF)

    Overview

In the beginning of learning Mindfulness meditation, you learn simple methods of keeping to the breath and coming back to it over and over. However, it is not easy for most to stay focused on the breath or other objects of meditation. One can get distracted by physical pain, the monkey mind, restlessness, aversion, sleepiness and doubt.  The Managing Obstacles to Mindfulness class focuses on how to manage obstacles that get in the way of continuing with meditation, peacefulness and being Mindful during the day. Obstacles to Mindfulness and meditation are the same obstacles we encounter in every aspect of life and in our relationship to all things.  Lethargy, restlessness, aversion, craving and doubt are major obstacles that start to grow in our psyche from childhood.  Learning to recognize and manage these obstacles will enhance your ability to be Mindful, present and peaceful under any circumstance.
