    A Mindfulness Approach to Being With Cancer is a course that can be beneficial to anyone with a difficult diagnosis. In particular, cancer is a word that none of us ever want to hear. Being told you or a loved one has cancer can be devastating, and it can affect life in many ways. This Mindfulness Approach for Being with Cancer course will give you strategies to deal with all stages of the cancer journey, provide tools for a greater sense of stability and calm in your body and mind, and offer a safe space for questions and dialog.

    • Practical exercises to increase ease and the ability to choose and gain control
    • How to connect with your body and change the approach to pain
    • Tools to cope with difficult emotions which may help reduce anxiety, stress, and fear
    • Heart-centered practices of forgiveness, kindness, and compassion
    • Replace resistance with acceptance and resilience, adopting letting go
    • Ways to develop a daily mindfulness practice

    Who is this course for?

    This class is open to anyone who has received a cancer diagnosis of any kind, at any stage, their caregivers, loved ones, family and friends, and anyone who works with people who have been affected by cancer in any capacity. The class can be beneficial to anyone who is interested in mindfulness response to pain, illness, and related challenges.

    From Malky Kertis, the Teacher

    Derived from my personal experience with blood cancer and bone marrow transplant, through living with the disease and regaining health, and combined with my years of studying mindfulness and meditation, I have adopted a mindfulness approach to being with cancer, and without.


    Working with, and listening to fellow cancer patients, their families, caregivers, and medical staff allowed me to develop A Mindfulness Approach to Being with Cancer course to help support these specific difficulties.

    My hope and belief are that sharing this knowledge along with tangible ways to practice and encouragement will produce a greater sense of freedom to choose a response to what cancer may bring. This freedom will allow you a greater sense of control, may help reduce stress and feelings of uncertainty to help reach calmness in body and mind.

    This course was designed to allow participants to experience the notion that Mindfulness can be obtained by all. With practice and some dedication, we can improve our skills of showing up to life and what may unfold, be present and learn that finding a glimpse of ease amid turmoil is possible. And be empowered by knowing that after the darkest night, the sun will rise again, and if we choose to, we can open the curtains.

    While we cannot control cancer, we can manage our response to it.
