    ADHD: Mindfulness for ADHD (Adults)

    Attention in ADD/HD is not a deficit rather it is inconsistent.  This class will teach how to manage your attention from being everywhere but here.  Staying engaged even when you feel bored and tuned out. Strengthening a sense of presence at work and with loved ones.


    For many decades cognitive and behavioral therapies have not worked for ADHD. This is mainly because tips and strategies offered are based on how a Neurotypical Nervous System (80-90% of the population) works. Imposing and forcing the ADHD brain to function as a neurotypical is not possible and has not worked.


    Recent research about ADHD brain shows that ADHD is NOT a disorder, rather the ADHD brain has its own unique function that needs to be understood according to how it functions, not according to how the “neurotypical” brains function. Research also indicates that “Neurotypical” does NOT constitute “normal” nor does ADHD constitutes abnormal. These are simply different brain systems.

    Studies show that Mindfulness Training improves anxiety, depression, forgetfulness, procrastination, clutter, and impulsive reactions. Mindfulness training increases: calmness, clarity, focus and attentiveness, helps manage emotions and increase productivity. Mindful Awareness changes neural activity and neuropathways in the brain. With continued practice, these changes can become permanent.

    In this course we introduce and apply Mindfulness tools and practices that are designed for the ADHD nervous system (brain function). With practice these Mindfulness tools and exercises can greatly improve the lives of adults with ADHD, their work and family life.

    Course Content
    1. How the ADHD brain (nervous system) functions
    2. How to create calm and attentiveness using mindful awareness exercises
    3. Tools to manage anxiety, fear, worry, anger and self-doubt/ self-judgment
    4. Tools to focus and achieve goals when tasks are not interesting or boring
    5. Effective strategies best for the ADHD Nervous System that can improve:

    Behavioral Challenges
    – Forgetfulness, Inattention, Clutter, Disorganization
    – Procrastination, Lack of Motivation
    – Lack of Self-Appraisal, Time Management
    – Impulsiveness, Overly Talkative
    – Lack of Organization
    – Low Self-confidence

    Emotional Challenges:  Anxiety, Depression, Anger, Impatiens, Worry, Fear, Denial, Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria, Light/Sound/Touch Sensitivity, Self-doubt

    Dr. Manijeh Motaghy – A Founder, Executive Director and Teacher at Perfectly Here. She is also the Founder and CEO of Mindful Business Institute. She is an Authorized Mindfulness teacher through UCLA MARC and holds a Doctorate in Psychology of Organization Management.

    Location and Parking Instructions
    Class location: 19100 Ventura Blvd #5, Los Angeles, CA 91356. Parking is free and there no time limits in the front after 6:00pm. There are plenty of free parking in the lot behind Tarzana Cultural Center. When you arrive at the shopping center go to the second floor and go all the way to the East side of the building. Go into the hallway and we will be the last door on the right.


    Refund, Make-up and Cancellation Policy
    Class Refunds must be requested before 5pm 72 hours before the first week of class. There will be a $25 administrative fee. After that we cannot give refunds. Refunds should be requested by emailing: register@perfectlyhere.org. Perfectly Here reserves the right to cancel classes due to low enrollment. Registrants will be notified in advance of the class and receive full refund. No refunds or credits are given to registrant “no-shows”.

    If you miss a class, you may make it up during the series immediately following. No refund or prorate will be issued for missed classes. Students may postpone a class. In this case, credit towards a future class will be provided if a registrant notifies us by phone or email in advance of 5pm on Friday before the first week of the class. Future class must be made up on the class immediately following the missed class series. (For example: if postponing a May/June class series you will have to use your credit and enroll in the July/August class series)

    What to Bring
    All you need is comfortable clothing and material to take notes if you are so inclined. We suggest that you bring a folder to keep handouts in and bring back in each class to refer to.
