In an age marked by conflict, misinformation, and emotional reactivity, and being able to free the mind is essential.
This course invites participants to step into the training power of the mind as an active force for living and intelligent leadership. Building upon MLO 405: Building a Compassionate World, this course provides the essential tools to work with thoughts, feelings, desires, and mental activities and transform them into higher competencies that produce a life of ease, joy, and success.
Participants will explore how wise thinking and wisely directing one’s mind can be a powerful inner-compass to build confidence, character, courage, trust, and greater success and satisfaction — in personal life as well as in organizations, communities, and families alike.
- You’ll learn about intelligent mental actions (Wise Effort)
- You’ll examine how perspectives, interpretations, assumptions form and how they can uproot happiness
- You’ll understand the role of the “selfish-gene,” and how you may feel bound by forces you can’t overcome
- You’ll understand four types of awareness
- You’ll create mindfulness through your own physical sensations, feelings, mind, and the truths of life
- You’ll explore proper or wise concentration and its positive effects
- Quiet the mind for relaxation and seeing its machinations
- Use practical methods to reprogram reactive habits into wise, effective, and compassionate responses.
- Protect the mind from false notions that create issues and suffering
- Weed out the types of thinking that cause stress and harmful results
- Nourish or strengthen ways of thinking that are authentic, beneficial, and rooted in generosity and compassion
- Build self-awareness
- Mindfulness of the body, feelings, mind and life’s truths
- Short centering practices
- Lectures, reading and reflection questions
- Guidance to grow insight into essential inner qualities and skills
- Community sharing and learning
