1001: Intro to Compassionate Grieving Course

Intro to Compassionate Grieving Course is designed to begin to help ease the pain of families who are grieving for the loss of a loved one to addiction / alcoholism. This course will introduce an understanding of life/ death, the natural pains that accompany us, our desires for well-being and happiness and how to become grounded in the face of grief and intense emotions. We will develop self-compassion, patience and move towards finding happiness in life.

This five weeks introductory course may help reduce the difficult emotions of (sadness, regret, anger, etc.) that can arise during holidays. A wonderful gift to yourself and or a loved one.

Course Content:

  • Mindfulness Meditation
  • Examining our paradigm
  • Understanding feelings/emotions
  • Giving grief space without being lost in it
  • Understanding difference between natural and self-created suffering
  • Cultivating Self-Compassion

Class Structure 
This class meets weekly for an hour and half for five weeks. Emphasis will be placed on home practice where students will begin to meditate with a few minutes each day and work up to twenty minutes a day.

Who should take this class?
Family and friends who are affected by addiction, loss of loved ones due to addiction and those who are interested in reducing the pain of grief and loss through compassionate means.

Teacher: Dr. Manijeh Motaghy – Dr. Motaghy has lost her own son to Opioid addiction and gone through intense periods of being ripped and wiped out by the tornadoes, hurricanes and tsunamis of emotions. Through her own practices of mindfulness, loving-kindness, compassion and a deep desire for happiness she found relief, hope and solace – Out of an immense sense of compassion for the pain of grief, she has developed this and other courses in the Kuroosh Compassionate Recovery Program to help other parents and family members live a sane life after the death of their child.

Location and Parking Instructions:
This class will take place in Tarzana at: 19100 Ventura Blvd #5, Los Angeles, CA 91356. Parking is free and there no time limits in the front after 6:00pm. There are also plenty of free parking in the lot behind Tarzana Cultural Center. When you arrive at the shopping center go to the second floor and go all the way to the East side of the building. Go into the hallway and we will be the last door on the right.

Refund, Make-up and Cancellation Policy
Class Refunds must be requested before 5pm on Friday of the first week of class. There will be a $25 administrative fee. After the first Friday we cannot give refunds. Refunds should be requested by emailing: register@perfectlyhere.org. Perfectly Here reserves the right to cancel classes due to low enrollment. Registrants will be notified in advance of the class. No refunds or credits are given to registrant “no-shows”.

If you miss a class, you may make it up during a current series or the series immediately following. No refund or prorate will be issued for missed classes. Students may Postpone a class. In this case, credit towards a future class will be provided if a registrant notifies us by phone or email in advance of 5pm on Friday of the first week of the class series. Future class must be made up on the class immediately following the missed class series. (For example: if postponing a May/June class series you will have to use your credit and enroll in the July/August class series)

What to Bring
All you need is comfortable clothing. We ask that participants take their shoes off. You may want to wear or bring a pair of socks if you prefer. There are chairs, blankets and cushions provided.

Fee:  All courses are offered to First-Responders and Veterans and their immediate family members at NO COST.

The Regular Fee is used towards the continuous development of the Kuroosh Compassionate Recovery Program. Please pay the full amount if you can. No one is turned away for lack of funds. Therefore, if you are in true financial hardship and unable to pay the reduced fee, please contact us via inf@perfectlyhere.org and ask for scholarship.
